Great Barrier Reef:

This official statement is false.

And the timing - it’s an unconvincing attempt to distract attention from the worst mass mortality of corals, in 2024 due to anthropogenic heating.

Just in time for the next meeting of the World Heritage Committee in July.

🪸 Climate change skeptics are dismissing record bleaching at Australia's Great Barrier Reef by claiming coral populations are at an all time high. But marine scientists warn global warming has negatively affected biodiversity and resilience in the region u.afp.com/5dbs

Culling starfish:

“After every bleaching event the Australian government announces more money for killing starfish on a small subset of reefs, shifting the focus from dealing with the causes of these outbreaks, or from reducing Australia’s emissions” newscientist.com/article/242831…

So after three more mass coral bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef caused by anthropogenic heating, how is this all going……?

(Very badly).

Great Barrier Reef, 2024: “The condition of the reef was really appalling, with much of the coral either fluorescing (stressed), bleached or already dead and covered in macro algae.”

“It is cheaper to greenwash in Australia than not.”

Polly Hemming explains how the government’s certification scheme, Climate Active, makes it cheaper & easier for businesses to offset their way to “carbon neutrality” than to invest in reducing real emissions.

Another new coal proposal out to 2060. But don't worry, koalas, Tanya Plibersek has your back.

dand It’s common myth among climate change sceptics that scientists call out environmental destruction for financial gain. In reality, many scientists point out that quick fixes are a delusion and not cost-effective.

A consequence of widespread marine heatwaves is a global coral bleaching event, recently confirmed by NOAA 🪸

Several countries in the Southwest Pacific have been affected, including Fiji, where I explored the corals last weekend - many of which were partially or fully bleached.
