Yesterday I was fortunate to be speaker at the Opening Ceremony for a new academic year at the Catholic University of Milan. The day began with the Holy Mass at the University’s Cathedral of St Ambrose celebrated by the Archbishop of Milan, HE Mons Mario Delpini. It was great.

The Opening Ceremony for Academic Year 2024-2025 at Catholic University of Milan took place yesterday. I spoke on youth unemployment in Africa and how we can tackle it with technology. Grateful to Prof Elena Becalli, Rector, for inviting me with Ms Leymah Gbowe, Nobel Laureate.

I am very sorry to learn of the passing away of Jeffrey Fine. Jeff was the architect behind the founding of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) in 1988. He was very committed to capacity building for economists in Africa. Rest in peace Jeff🙏🏾 legacy.com/ca/obituaries/…

OAA 1973 is visiting Cape Coast for an annual retreat. They spent time at Abura Dunkwa and did the Kakum Forest Canopy Walk. They also visited WGHS, St Augustine’s, Mfantsipim, Holy Child and Adisadel, and spoke to Management and students at some schools. It has been great 👍🏽

It’s great to return to University of Pretoria for the 2025 Senate Conference. The new VC, Prof Francis Petersen, set the tone with his opening remarks. He identified some areas in which UP research must grow. UP is determined to provide research leadership in Africa.

This morning, OAA 1975 and 1985 Year Groups jointly presented science equipment to Achimota School for the OAA-Tullow Science Block. On behalf of the Governing Board I would like to thank them for their very generous support. We look forward to a great weekend for Founders Day.

The Board of Achimota School has inaugurated 6 Committees to facilitate its work. The Committees are 1) Academic, (2) Finance, (3) Projects, (4) Land and Legal, (5) Discipline, and (6) Facilities Naming. About 90% of members are distinguished Akoras of all generations. Ayekoo 🙏🏾

I have just had a great meeting with the OAA 2002 Year Group to discuss their proposed legacy project at Achimota School. The Group proposes to build a new house for boys to mark 25 years of leaving school and 100 years of the School in 2027. We are grateful to 2002 Year Group 🙏🏾

We have just spent a most pleasant evening of dinner at home with the President of Barbados, Dame Sandra Mason. Accompanied by the Ambassador of Barbados to Ghana, HE Juliette Sutherland, it has been simply great 👍🏽 Dame Sandra is visiting Ghana for 4 days with her son.
