Another of last year’s #potato crops still in the ground - easy to see those below the frost line and those above. Cut a neat line through many of them.

Our first trial started - row width trial sponsored by CUPGRA and McCain UK IE - looking to assess the impact of four different row widths on yield and tuber size distribution - 72,86,91, and 101cm. Plant population remaining the same - so varying the row spacing for each.

Possibly the largest #potato biostimulant trial ever? 7 different biostimulant treatments from multiple manufacturers - 280 metres long - over 2km of row planted by hand - and some decent weather for a change!

Seeing more free-living nematode in #potatoes this season than in any previous seasons. Conditions have been ideal for them to feed.

There seems to be a more noticeable difference in speed of establishment between small seed and large seed this season. Another symptom of the wetter/colder seed beds. These #potatoes were planted on the same day

Arrived at this yard this morning to be confronted by, what appear to be, the new characters in a CBeebies program. Problem is there are three “Digger”s and two “Scoop”s!

Still finding an annoying amount of late blight in West Mids - on crops that have been treated every 7 days from 15-20% ground cover.

#potato planting at pace in West Midlands this week. Soil temperatures around 5-6C but soil conditions are very good. Great weather forecast for next 7 days at least. There’ll be a lot planted next week.
