A very delicious fantastic finish to our Ancient China topic today. We enjoyed trying lots of Chinese ingredients and flavouring when making Chinese stir fry.

A big well done to our winners of Number day. Rose, in Holly class, who brought in the longest carrot, 🥕 Poppy, in Oak class, who found the heaviest potato 🥔 Lily, in Willow class, who had the juiciest oranges 🍊 I also think Mrs Page needs a prize for the smallest carrot

Willow class had a fantastic morning on Number day, squeezing as much volume of orange juice as they could out of their oranges and using ratios to mix some delicious cocktails - cheers! 🍹

Oak class celebrated Number day in the forest with potatoes. They measured the weight and size of the potatoes and cooked them on the fire.

Holly class had an exciting morning measuring carrots with cubes and rulers and placing them in length order. They also created pictograms and maths art using primary colours squares and lines.

We welcomed Kaye Patten, who is a local author, into Thorndon today. She shared her story of becoming an author and showed how all of her books started as ideas on scrap paper. An excellent experience for the children.

We were so lucky to have been visited by Jamie Knight today! He is a 2x world record holder, with his incredible freestyling football skills. He showed us a variety of different tricks that he can perform and taught us them too. We had the best time and learned so many new skills

We had a great Science lesson today investigating the reaction times of children and adults in Science. We had some very fast parents and competition was high! A great afternoon.

We had such a lovely, sunny day at Baylam Rare Breeds farm today. We fed lots of animals, rubbed pigs bellies, groomed goats and ponys, saw lots of baby lambs, stroked some very soft, fluffy rabbits and witnessed the goats being milked. Lots of wonderful outdoor learning.

DT was great fun in Willow class this week. We researched columns used in Ancient Greece during our Architecture topic and tried to create structures with columns using 3 sheets of paper that were supportive and provided stability for a number of weights. Some held 10kg!

Oak class investigated strengthening structures today in DT using cocktail sticks and sweets. Yummy!

Congratulations to the Winners of Our Thorndon Poetry Competition! The quality of the poems was truly outstanding, showcasing the remarkable talent and creativity of our children.

We thoroughly enjoyed our poetry afternoon, during which the children created artwork inspired by poems, engaged in rhyming games, and collaboratively composed an ‘I am’ poem as a whole school. Our sun display of our poem is so striking!

The children of Thorndon Primary School would like to thank the Parish Council for their extremely generous donation towards the new play equipment.
