Spending preferences vary by income: poorer Sri Lankans prioritized food assistance for increases (17%), while nearly half of the better-off (49%) supported cuts to it. Similarly, the better-off wanted cuts to Samurdhi/Aswesuma, while the poor favoured increases. 3/5

Support for increased health spending has surged from 58% in Q1 2023 to 87% in Q3 2024, reflecting the worsening shortages in govt healthcare and the increasing unaffordability of private care as real incomes fall. #SriLanka2024 #HealthcareCrisis #PollingResults 4/5

An AKD win can no longer be confidently ruled out (although 2nd pref scenarios still favour SP). The more I think about how we got to this situation, the more I'm convinced that it all started when RW broke ranks with the opposition and stepped up to protect...

Sri Lankan voters want more govt spending on health and education Our latests polling, as also before the Presidential Election 2019, finds that large majorities of Sri Lankans prioritize these sectors for budget increases–something also supported by the IMF, World Bank. And as

US elections going through a ‘dr shafi’ ‘no burials’ phase in the form of dark migrants eat cats & dogs tales etc In large part SL has an election without racism. Credit also to the, at least facially, non-racist leading candidates. And nationalist voices are dimmer, for now.

Vulnerability to partisan dbl stds/selectivity isn’t surprising; it’s not ideal. Recently: - Left, non-left call for parl dissolution. Left taken to task - Describing left as Commie, right as Nazi. Latter taken to task - Left & Right o/s voters come to vote. Left taken to task

Fascinated to see effects and value of influential US citizens in various fields endorsing different presidential candidates. For example: Taylor Swift, Martha Stewart and George RR Martin support KH. Peter Thiel, Chamath P support DT.

Sri Lanka’s Executive Pres system is understandably coveted by some close to power Some useful and necessary individuals can rightly enjoy being appointed to office So too can the corrupt, deal merchants, deviants, failed, favour-givers, incompetent, unelectable, unelected etc

SL electorate can sure be delphic. 2/3 have a favourable view of 2022 Aragalaya: Reasonable pro & anti-Aragalaya support for all candidates, with material % variation in numbers. Ditto those who see 'Rich-Poor gap' as good or bad. Curious that Rich-Poor gap is seen as good.
