It has been an eventful few days at the Colorado State Capitol. Yesterday, HB24-1231, our bill to fund our proposed osteopathic medical college, passed the Senate Finance Committee. Today, we are back with a delegation of local partners to celebrate Greeley Day at the Capitol.

The UNC•Greeley Jazz Festival is happening now. With acts from all over the country, including more than 20 University of Northern Colorado student groups, this annual event is once again a hit.

Thanks to our prime sponsors in the House Rep. Mary Young and Representative Lindsey Daugherty and to many sponsors including Representative Shannon Bird our bill to fund the University of Northern Colorado osteopathic medical college and three related health sciences education programs passed the second reading in the House.

I was back at the state Capitol today with a group of exceptional University of Northern Colorado students, including members of UNC Student Government Association. They spoke with elected officials about the importance of keeping higher education accessible and affordable. Go Bears!

We had a good discussion at today’s Campus Climate Fireside Chat. Dr. Tobias Guzmán and I provided an overview of the recent University of Northern Colorado climate survey and explored how we will use the findings to foster inclusivity and a strong sense of belonging. Thank you to everyone who attended.
