From CFIA to OMAFA, the morning focused on the systems behind disease control. Dr. Cox laid the foundation—how we track, report & respond to endemic diseases. Dr. Rosca took it further, challenging us to think about biosecurity fatigue in the face of long-term prevention.

IBH is more common than we think. Dr. Novy reminded us it’s the 3rd most common health issue and covered vax strategies + environmental control. Dr. Haq followed with a deep dive into viral arthritis—really cool to see how viral “family trees” inform prevention.

Pamela Kuipers-Malek from EFO walked us through testing, response protocols & ongoing research with OMAFA to better understand the rise in Salmonella cases Dr. Schlegel talked diagnosing & responding to aMPV—sharing tools to help producers catch it early and treat it effectively

Dr. Abolarin: aMPV in turkeys can be tricky to catch—signs vary and there’s no treatment. Prevention is the only path: biosecurity, disinfection, and tailored vaccination. Dr. Kloeze: HPAI demands a shared response—CFIA, provinces, vets, owners & public health all play a role.
