There are a lot of negative assumptions made about today's youth. But let me tell you... the IB students at Union Academy will make your heart smile. I had the pleasure to interact with the 8th graders at the annual community project showcase today. AMAZING!!!

Polk County Public Schools high school and middle school BBQ team rules meeting today. I am so proud to see this continue to grow and include more schools. New this year are categories for grilled cheese and lollipop chicken. Another great year for these student competitors!!!!

I wanted to give credit to the amazing team of real life heros we have here in PCPS. Polk County called, and we answered opening 19 shelters with almost 39,000 beds. But it's the team of dedicated staff running these shelters around the clock that deserve all the praise.

Here are some facts for you to consider regarding shelter operations. Each site has two teams who work in 12 hour shifts around the clock. Once the storm hits, they stay on site and continue to serve those in need. Guests - 6060 Pets - 383 Staff - 264
