Last panel Absences &Voids Picturing the Invisible Assumptions are inherent (even fundamental) in how we picture the #invisible, picturing is by nature an outward manifestation of #ideas, transparency of assumptions is important. In psychoanalysis complexity leads to multi-determination

Really enjoyed kicking off our Picturing the Invisible session on #interpretation. In #forensic #science we aim to picture the invisible in many ways, &interpret the #clues to reconstruct events. We need a holistic view & transparency about what we need to know and what we can know

Next up Irene Tracey @MertonCollege shares how to #picture the mind with neuroscience - visualising structure &function at increasing resolution, the power of large datasets UK Biobank for sensitive early indicators of #aging &impact of priors (experience) on what we perceive

Thinking about meaning &breaking out of disciplinary #jargon w @R_Trotta Imperial College London 2talk about big ideas w’out technical words that can be a barrier &helps us communicate meaning that goes to the essence of things. This reveals how terms have different meanings #dictionary

And finally in our #Interpretation session Martyna Marciniak Forensic Architecture on weaponisation of the visible, considering footage of events &the important consideration of the #threshold of detectability for what it’s possible to see - shaping the (counter)narrative in the #media

A truly fascinating and a genuinely interdisciplinary conference Picturing the Invisible Chelsea College of Arts

We have an amazing line up tonight from our Arts and Humanities Research Council network ‘picturing the invisible’ members for our final event with readings from their chapters in our forthcoming edited volume. We are taking in forensic science, curation, art history &imaging #interdisciplinarity

In our Arts and Humanities Research Council network edited volume, each chapter explores what it means to ‘picture the invisible’ in our own disciplines, in the light of the themes that have emerged from the #artsci network: #interdisciplinary; #language &communication; #interpretation; #absences &voids

Congratulations to Paul Coldwell (University of the Arts London) and Ruth Morgan (UCL ForensicSciences, UCL Engineering) whose new #openaccess edited collection Picturing the Invisible: Exploring interdisciplinary synergies from the arts and the sciences publishes today! ow.ly/iVVa50Hul9T

🚨 NEW on the #DisruptiveVoices blog: Ruth Morgan UCL Crime Science UCL Engineering explores the key themes in her new book - and discusses how we can use insights from different disciplines on tackling challenges to advance conversations. ⬇️ UCL Press medium.com/disruptive-voi…
