I'm currently advertising a short 10-month post-doc. Suitable for somebody with experience in dynamical modelling, speech dynamics and/or computational neuroscience. The job can be (somewhat) flexible to fit the right candidate's skillset. Deadline 23 Sep! hr-jobs.lancs.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?r…
Excited to be at the workshop on “How to distinguish oscillations from noise?”, which is taking place (very conveniently for me) at Lancaster Physics this week. Great programme ahead! wp.lancs.ac.uk/tsand24/progra…

Loving the fact that our first Lancaster University Phonetics Lab meeting of the year includes lots of photos of our cats! ❤️🐈🐈⬛ #Linguisticats Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster Uni
Very proud of my TWO students who both submitted their PhD last week - Takayuki Nagamine Takayuki Nagamine / 長峯貴幸 and Emily Gorman! A few of us went to celebrate with Emily yesterday, while Takayuki has already left to start a great postdoc at UCL! (Emily starts her postdoc in a few weeks!)
On the train back up to 🏴 after a great time presenting my research at Lancaster University Phonetics Lab at Lancaster. Thank you so much to Claire Nance & folk for such a lovely welcome and really helpful feedback. And hopefully see you all again soon when I have the 👀 data!
Huge congratulations to Rhiannon Mogridge on passing her #PhD #viva with minor corrections! Massive thanks to her supervisor Dr Anton Ragni; her viva examiners Roger K Moore (University of Sheffield) and Sam Kirkham (Lancaster University); and her sponsors Toshiba Europe Ltd!
Great to be back here to examine a wonderful PhD thesis by Rhiannon Mogridge on using the MINERVA2 model for speech and language processing!
Scaling laws for nonlinear dynamical models of articulatory control ➡️ My new article out today in JASA Express Letters, in which I present some new advances on nonlinear task dynamic models of articulatory speech movements. 🔗 doi.org/10.1121/10.003… JASA Express Letters
This study proposes new scaling laws for nonlinear dynamical models of speech, allowing us to develop more realistic models of articulatory control in speech. doi.org/10.1121/10.003… #acoustics Sam Kirkham @phoneticslab
