Heard about a well hidden old growth forest on a Lake George (Adirondack) mountain—had to go, of course. We don’t have many healthy, mature beech trees left (darn invasives), so I was happy to get a good hug in.

Ever wonder why they call it an Ovenbird?

This weird warbler looks and acts more like a thrush, spending a lot of time on the forest floor. They build incredibly cryptic oven-like nests right in the leaf litter. I was lucky to find one today!

Bushwhacked into an #Adirondack #OldGrowth #Forest to check on a special tree. 103 was once a state champion, but I ended up discovering her dead. My nose met her first—the scent of an Amish sawmill was overwhelming.

I don’t have much experience, nor an outstanding camera, but I’m enjoying birding as a new hobby! Just hit 105 species in my county—NW Adirondacks and St. Lawrence River. Here you’ll see a Yellow Warbler, Eastern Kingbird (Tyrannus tyrannus—what an awesome name), and an Osprey
