In 1619 in Mexico, the city of Yanga was founded by enslaved Africans, led by Gaspar Yanga, who rebelled against colonial rule. After years of battle, Yanga negotiated a treaty with the Spanish Crown permitting them their own government & the 1st independent town in the Americas.
