This has been a fascinating read - I picked up James Holland and Al Murray 🇺🇦's 'Victory '45' when I was at Tankfest at the The Tank Museum last month. A fresh way of looking at the remarkable stories around the surrenders that finally brought #WW2 to an end across the world.

In Leamington Spa today and spotted the town’s war memorial. Many names from WW1 and WW2, but I was struck by four around the back from the Korean War and the Falklands conflict. #memorials

Great to see my article about identifying a #WW1 Ox and Bucks Light Infantry officer in the latest Britain at War. Fascinating to talk to Ingram Murray about the 10yr investigation and the surprise as to who it was. These items were found with the body. SOFO /Colin Morris

Just finished Peter Bull’s excellent #WW2 memoir ‘To Sea in a Sieve’ (1956). In the RNVR from 1941 (Ord Seaman) to 1946 (Lt Cdr), he served in Landing Craft Tank and Flak in the Mediterranean - Sicily, Anzio etc and all the way to Venice. His humour balances the tough times.

Deep in the woods on the French island of Ile-de-Re we find one of the flak batteries supporting the defence of Kora, the S 497 Fire Control tower. There are many remains in this area. Leading into the ammo rooms, camouflage hooks still present and steps leading out. #WW2

Just read this fascinating history of the Royal Naval base at Scapa Flow. Found one of my great uncles as a midshipman on HMS Queen Elizabeth in 1917! He’s in a group photo during the visit of King George V and Prince Albert. Louis Mountbatten is also in the pic as a midshipman.

This book from 1964 has been an interesting read. What a shambles the first battles of the #BoerWar in 1899 appear to have been for the British Army - Belmont, Modder River, Magersfontein, Colenso and Spion Kop. Indecisive generals, poor communications and wasted lives. #books
