Opioids are decent analgesics initially, more or less on par with NSAIDs. With regular use, their primary benefit becomes the prevention of opioid withdrawal.

My grandpa who is 85 started making this rock map of Scotland in 1992.He collected rocks during amateur geology trips over 30 years. He says it had to be geologically correct and also aesthetically pleasing. He asked if I could share online as He wants to go viral so please share

The discussion over whether PSA testing is useful to detect prostate cancer continues in this week’s The BMJ with this “60 seconds on…” report by Zosia Kmietowicz.

TLDR? Still no clear evidence that screening is effective & there is harm.

Andrew University Hospital Southampton 💙 I completely understand the PA/FY argument- what I don’t like is the rest of us non-medics being included in this.

Many of the same folks speak the same about all non-medics vs doctors.

When they have finished with PA’s - people like me will be the next target.

Sept 24 & Jan 25 are now open. courses.uwe.ac.uk/Z51000077/inde…

We are not in receipt of NHSE commissioned places for Pharmacists yet so I suggest you prepare forms so you r ready.

Applications are a two step process. First an online profile and then adding a fully filled out form. 1/2

This is one of the problems that I see growing on the back of the anger about PA’s - the rhetoric that anyone that’s “not a doctor” shouldn’t have expanded practice.

University Hospital Southampton 💙 is a far better +safer place for staff + patients with expanded roles from nurses / pharmacists and AHP’s

Clare Howard Liz Butterfield My CCG used to offer significant incentives for SMR through QPSS. Now downgraded after merger into ICB. No longer prioritised. I'm now told my job must focus on QOF targets. Depressing waste of my expertise and years of experience

it can be very hard to publicly change your mind.
but when people challenge themselves through reading, critiquing and reflecting on evidence/actions, it can be a sign of great personal character to do so.

I believe pharmacists are hugely under used and under appreciated. At least in UK medicine.

How often do you round with a pharmacist?

How often do you consult a pharmacist on a management plan?

I don't think we do this enough.
