As you've pointed out Peter - the phone call is important. If digital forensics was/is performed on both phones before, during and after his disappearance inc their location data - it could help the investigation. Regardless of direct/indirect involvement in his disappearance.

Boasting about disciplining a child WHILE he is missing strongly suggests that the “discipline” is a factor in his disappearance.
