I read Harvard Law prof Mary Ann Glendon’s In the Court of Three Popes, a memoir of work and service in and around the Vatican. Though I’m not a Catholic, I loved it - thoughtful and thinking about what it means to do institution building as a believer in a tumultuous world.

I’m playing the movie game with my 15 yo - ie, someone names two movies and you race to connect them via actors or director - and I am absolutely dominating him, which is doing wondrous things for my ego and reciprocally devastating things to his.

Grateful to the Economist for featuring my book, The Truth About Immigration, in their cover story this week. Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not! How can we do better to attract the immigrants who will build our future? economist.com/briefing/2024/… #immigration #talent #skill

The CIA's credit union Northwest Federal just spent over $50 million for stadium naming rights on what was FedEx Field. They also report almost $20 million in loans to senior staff and officials. 🤔

I watched today as one of my best friends was promoted to Captain in the US Navy. An incredible program and ritual, made me a little misty eyed to think about him, his family, and our country as these officers swear themselves to country and Constitution.

Bank lobbyists have declared war on supervision but don't know financial history well enough to understand what it is they are fighting. COC Hsu, however, understands things very well! Also, everyone should preorder my book w/ Sean Vanatta below amazon.ca/Private-Financ…

One of the all time greats - an incredible scholar, public servant, and human being. (I’m biased perhaps - David Skeel @ Penn has been a very close friend and mentor for nearly 20 years. But that only means I know of which I speak!)

I’ve owned several Fender Strats over the years and have liked them very much. But I’m always going to grab a Gibson, which I adore (my Les Paul means more to me than some family members). But I just played a Telecaster for the first time and my friends, Oh. My. Word.

Philip Jefferson is the Vice Chair of the Fed Board A position that’s a bfd (see Rich Clarida, Stan Fischer, Don Kohn, Janet Yellen) His disappearance this year (no speech since May 20, only 3 speeches in 2024) is curious, esp given the impt post-SVB speech he gave last yr
