Does ESPN really think the average viewer can identify the logos of all the NBA teams? The crawl at the bottom of the screen during NBA Draft coverage is useless.

Once again, a local station (this time Fox-23) has to ruin the presentation of a major sporting event with a meaningless weather map blocking the All-Star Game graphics. THE PEOPLE IN RUTLAND, VT., DON'T NEED A MAP to know it's raining there.

Hayden Knapp of South Glens Falls shot a 7-over-par 78 in the opening round of the Twin Bridges Championship, an Epson Tour event at Pinehaven. Not bad for 14-year-old.

Playing #ArenaBowlXXXIII in a mall was not a well thought-out idea. Camera angles are horrible. The field looks about half the size as the one in MVP Arena (no corners in end zones). Not the way to promote the league to a national TV audience.

Instead of inserting commercials during timeouts, #nbcolympics insists on using a split screen during beach volleyball telecasts while play is going on. If soccer can be played without commercial interruption so should beach volleyball.

At its NFL media seminar this morning in New York, CBS announced that one of its two wild-card playoff games will be given the "Nickelodeon" treatment.

Studio 43, where the NFL Today studio show has been produced on CBS for years, is undergoing a renovation, and when it debuts Sept. 8, it will be known as the Sean McManus Studio 43, in honor of the recently retired CBS Sports chairman.

At its media day today in Bristol, Conn., ESPN announced a "Where To Watch" app, a single daily guide to find any televised or streaming sports event regardless whether the game is on one of its properties or another network.

ESPN just announced that Bill Belichick will appear on all 11 Monday Night Football "alternate" telecasts with Peyton and Eli Manning on ESPN2, in addition to having a regular Monday segment on the Pat McAfee Show.

On a day full of announcements, ESPN has signed a 12-year contract extension with the U.S. Tennis Association to continue airing the U.S. Open.

The extension keeps U.S. Open on ESPN through 2037. I'm not sure that's a good thing, given the network's gaggle of non-analysts (they're more like apologists for the players).

DirecTV and Disney (i.e., ESPN) have reached an agreement in principle that will restore the full lineup of linear networks to the air.
