Exactly right. If the Italian cops had been competent the real killer would have been identified within days of the murder.

15/ conjecture, and moralizing disapproval. In other words, nothing. You may disapprove of Knox, but ignoring the judgment of Italy's highest court and considering her guilty because of tabloid gossip is a sign of poor judgment and a devastating blow to anyone's credibility.

14/ no reliable traces of their presence in Kercher's room or her body, while Guede's DNA was everywhere. They were rightly exonerated; the Italian justice system honorably corrected its mistakes. The accusations against Knox are based on gossip, rumors, speculation,

13/ Rudy Guede, a criminal drifter, raped and murdered Kercher alone, leaving his fingerprints and DNA everywhere, including inside Kercher. Perhaps he had an accomplice (the court leave the question open), but it certainly wasn't Knox or Sollecito, who left

12/ The Italian high court also denounced the evidence collection, which even violated Italian protocols in place in 2007, and which hopelessly contaminated the evidence. The DNA is worthless, and even if it were accurate, doesn't implicate Knox and Sollecito, as the court ruled.

10/ physically impossible. Therefore, the State's theory was extremely improbable, and required absolutely overpowering proof to overcome initial doubt. The State had none. Texts or emails detailing this intricate plan? None. Close ties among the rape/murder conspiracists? None.

9/ What's more, Knox and Sollecito cleaned up all of traces of their own involvement, while leaving Guede's bloody footprints intact on the floor of the flat. This would have required them to perform an intricate hopscotch dance. As the Court pointed out, this was literally

8/ Knox and Sollecito, as the judges pointed out, would have to have conspires with Guede to rip Kercher's clothes off, restrain her while she screamed and resisted, watch Guede violenty rape her while she screamed and cried, then help him stab her 40 times and slit her throat.

7/ Marasca and Bruno rightly point out how absurdly unlikely this is: Kercher, Knox, and Sollecito were college students with their entire lives before them. Guede was an Ivoirian criminal drifter. Sollecito had no idea who Guede was, Knox had only met him briefly.

5/ We can all read their report, which is interspersed with Latin legal maxims and philosophical reflections on the proper manner of interpreting circumstantial evidence. This is typical for European court judgements.

3/ European courts usually announce their decision long before they publish a ruling. In this case, the CoC announced its ruling months before it published its 'reasons'. These are literally translated as 'motivations', but are better called 'reasons' or 'justifications.'

2/ That is, the Court has the unique power to 'break' or invalidate the rulings of any lower court. It uses this power rarely, just like the US Supreme Court. After many thorough appeals, the Court of Cassation ruled Amanda Knox and Raffaelle Sollecito were innocent.

Really no excuse for not figuring out by now why and were ultimately vindicated and exonerated. But, in case you haven't, you'll profit from Andrew Hammel's thread. Says it all.

Spoiler alert: Meredith Kercher, may she RIP, was murdered by Rudy Guede.

CBS Mornings Nikki Battiste There is a very important error in this piece: Jens Söring did *not* request DNA testing in 2009 -- that testing was conducted *by the State of Virginia* on its own, under a program to reinvestigate DNA in old cases.

And Raffaele Sollecito has his own thoughts, too. You can read my article about the documentary here (below) with Raffaele Sollecito exclusive comments here, and see it later this week. Amanda Knox declined to take part but will no doubt watch with interest
