I find it disheartening that dominant academic culture still encourages using students and postdocs as underpaid and poorly treated labor. In addition to respect and other basic human rights, they deserve training, mentorship, advocacy, and sponsorship. How do we fix our culture?

Proud to be part of the NI mass editorial resignation, to improve the accessibility of our science. Please get ready to submit your amazing work to Imaging Neuroscience instead, and help built this new journal to align with our Open Science values!

We are now open for consideration of new papers at Imaging Neuroscience: janeway.imaging-neuroscience.org This allows for the review process to proceed without delay. The production & publication process for accepted papers will then wait until full journal opening (aiming for mid-July).

As a consequence of the debacle that Elsevier put upon our field with NeuroImage (-> now Imaging Neuroscience), I am doing the little I can to sanction their actions by resigning as editor from their newly found journal “Deep Brain Stimulation”. 🧵👇

... so far, outcomes are: Triage (typically because of scope) 25% Reject-after-review 35% Accept 40% This is a slightly higher accept rate (and lower triage rate) than we had at NI, as the average submitted paper quality is somewhat higher.

My promotion to Associate Professor (with tenure, pending a few more signatures) is now official. A huge THANK YOU to all mentors, lab members, letter writers, friends, and colleagues. This wouldn’t be possible without your support over the years.
