It’s Len Denton The Grapplers birthday today. One of the people I owe a great deal to. Not only for his support doing PW, his knowledge, his booking, but more importantly his friendship and love over the years. A true friend in wrestling, something that is rare.

From the Buddy Rose archive, this photo series shows Buddy goofing around from ‘76-‘77 based on an inscription with the words “Bomber Motel” written on the back. The Bomber Motel was where many of the wrestlers lived; sacred grounds for partying after the matches held at the PSA.

🚨NEVER BEFORE SEEN FOOTAGE!🚨 Super 8mm footage of Sandy Parker v. Jean Antone from 9.16.75 at the legendary Portland Sports Arena. Notable Portland Wrestling alumni, Shag Thomas, acting as third man in the ring overseeing the match as referee. Enjoy!

He was the original "Moondog" in the business, as he got the name from Vince McMahon, Sr. He was a strong drawing card, especially up & down the West Coast. Happy Heavenly Birthday to Moondog Lonnie Mayne, who was born on this Day in Pro Wrestling History September 12th, 1943.

Polaroids from Buddy Rose’s archive of a WWF trip to Bahrain Saudi Arabia from September 18th-21st, 1984 where they ran Isa Town Stadium. Quite a few familiar faces in these photos! Thanks to Matt Farmer for the information on this particular tour.

When Jimmy Snuka arrived in the Portland territory during his rookie year of 1971, he was saddled (🤠) with Cowboy Frankie Laine. I can almost say with certainty that this promo photo was shot during that same timeline. Photo by Bob Lynn

Davey’s BJ’s Gym commercial from 2000. Filmed in downtown Calgary at my aunt Georgia’s and uncle BJ’s gym that was around from 1972-2011! This was the same gym where he bench pressed 500 lbs in 1989. Davey worked out there everyday he was in Calgary. 🇨🇦🏋🏻‍♀️ 💪🏼

Savage v. Ramos Spring ‘72. Without a doubt, no territory implemented the “coal miners glove” stipulation match quite like Portland. It was a forgone conclusion that the wrestler who could obtain the glove first would secure the pinfall and leave their opponent in a bloodbath.

Of all the things I had planned for today, seeing KEN PATERA at the legendary Loprinzi’s gym was not on my bingo card. Ken was very gracious with his time and indulged me with stories about wrestling, powerlifting, bodybuilding and just about everything inbetween!
