BREAKING NEWS: CTU Walkout Would Mean No Classes Wednesday If the Chicago Teachers Union votes today to switch to online learning, the action would be considered a strike by the head of Chicago Public Schools and result in classes being canceled on Wednesday.

The results of tonight's citywide electronic ballot are in. Starting tomorrow, all CTU members at CPS schools should be working remotely. The result of tonight's vote was 73 percent in favor of the remote-work-only job action.

Tomorrow, all members will log in remotely to work, and as this pandemic continues, we will do everything in our power to ensure that our classrooms are the safest and healthiest places for children to learn, thrive and grow.

We understand the frustration that is felt by tonight’s decision, and assure. families that we will continue to work diligently, as we have for the past 21 months, to encourage the mayor and her CPS team to at last commit to enforceable COVID-19 protections centered on safety.

Dr. Mae Jemison became the first Black woman in space in 1992. Jemison grew up in Chicago and graduated from Chicago Public Schools. She got her medical degree before becoming an astronaut. Dr. Jemison has been a professor and entrepreneur since leaving NASA. #BlackHistoryMonth
