Interesting report from the Royal Irish Academy on higher education in the North West of Ireland, with an important focus on the need and potential for further cross border engagement. ria.ie/sites/default/…

Excellent report from PivotalPPF on economic inactivity, highlighting contribution in NI from mental and physical health, plus need for more childcare provision. This is a very serious problem, which MLAs/ministers/depts need to address.

I’m completely and utterly fed up of seeing patients deteriorate and/or die waiting to access care that was freely available less than 15 years ago

The Govt and NHS Leadership are fully aware this is happening and clearly seem not to care

Never ever vote Tory again!!!

Analysis by NEF shows that HALF of local authorities are 'childcare deserts' (three or more 0-5yos for every available place)

Those local authorities are much more likely to also have high levels of deprivation

But this simply reflects the priorities of government policy... 🧵

When was last time party members were given a vote on a mayor or deputy mayor choice? My understanding is that not recently, if at all. But I'm not on the inside, so going by what I'm told.

But you can't then meet the sale price for an urban park, not unless a government department is going to pay. And NI public sector has run out of money.

JFK (not one of my heroes) said, think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. It's the same principle when u join a political party. (Not that I'm a member of one now, unless you include Co-op Party.)

I've just submitted Centre for Cross Border Studies written evidence to the Lords European Affairs Committee inquiry on UK-EU data adequacy. For many organisations involved in North-South and East-West cooperation, the ability to transfer data across jurisdictions is essential to their work.

I looked into this on behalf of Sinéad McLaughlin MLA when I worked for her. My understanding is that remediation of that site would cost several millions and would be uneconomic for commercial development. And I can't see public subsidy in current budget environment.

Paul Gosling Absolutely. The crowds using the new section from Day 1 hav been very impressive. It's one in the eye for the sizeable minority on social media who gurned tht the new foot/cycle bridge was waste of money & wouldn't be used. Full credit to the Council, EU etc for delivering this👍

I think what the perm secs messages indicate is extreme frustration at silo management within Executive. But my observation has been that departments - ie the perm secs and below - are also guilty of silo govt.

NI's top civil servant, Sir David Sterling, setting out his scathing private view based on what he saw from his ministers (texts with top DoJ official Peter May): 'Even in a crisis they seem keener on scoring points off each other than helping the citizen.'

I often think those who shout about the city’s failings now don’t fully appreciate how far this place has come in the space of a generation.

It is a beautiful place to call home.
