On #RemembranceDay , I thought I would pull together a thread of the stories of some of the Foreign Office and Diplomatic Service officials who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. 🧵
2 contributors to #BDOHP have sadly passed on recently: Sir John Ure, Ambassador to Cuba, Brazil and Sweden, oa.churchillarchives.libnova.com/view/15796, whose interview has just been opened, and Peter Penfold, High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, 1996-2000, oa.churchillarchives.libnova.com/view/1705.

We are very sad to hear of the death of Keith Hamilton.
Working with FCDO Historians from 1990-2013 he was a much loved and valued colleague.
A lively one for the #BDOHP today: David Barrie, a junior diplomat in Dublin at the time of Mountbatten's murder; a key figure in the Anglo-Irish Agreement years later (and had a whale of a time as Director of the Japan Festival in 1991).

Earlier this week, Churchill Archives Centre hosted a great oral history workshop with our current Visiting By Fellow Professor Russell Riley from Miller Center and our friends from FCDO Historians & History Of Parliament. A really good opportunity to discuss how our different programmes have evolved.
