Adenomyoma:

• I like to think of it as a fibroid/leiomyoma with endometrial glands and stroma inside.

• It’s a mixed epithelial (endometrial) and mesenchymal (fibroid) tumor.

• Benign

DDx: includes Atypical polypoid adenomyoma

Calcium Oxalate Crystals

On mammography, there may be calcifications that may warrant biopsy

On biopsy, pathologists try to look for calcs to make sure the lesion is sampled

Calcium oxalate crystals are harder to see but are associated with benign cystic lesions

•Multicentric in same breast (80% of pts) and bilateral (30-67%)

•Can have pagetoid spread of ducts

•If classic LCIS is found on biopsy, can be spared surgery

Benign Mimicker of Prostate Cancer: Basal Cell Hyperplasia

• Architecture: can appear solid, cribriform, infiltrative

• Cytology: hyperchromatic nuclei, scant cytoplasm (hence looks “bluer”) and may have prominent nucleoli

A colonoscopy was done.

A small 0.2 cm rectal polyp was found.

Multiple levels were done and the only finding: Prolapse type change

May be seen in low fiber diets/constipation.

I feel like Cytopath and Gynpath have similarities.

Cytopath uses context clues (eg. background RBCs as a gauge for size), gyn path does this too esp when there is small biopsy:

Mucinous Metaplasia of Prostate

• Benign, although can look crowded at times and can have luminal mucin extravasation

• DDX includes:
— “Foamy Gland” Adenocarcinoma (larger glands, infiltrative, may have eosinophilic secretion)

Metanephric Adenoma

• Benign neoplasm, usually incidental

• Biggest DDx: Papillary Renal Cell carcinoma, low-grade, solid type and epithelial-predominant Wilms
