This Monday, staff from Yellowstone, the Wyoming Wetlands Society, and ynpforever released 8 trumpeter swan cygnets as part of an ongoing restoration project to increase territorial pairs of swans which have undergone a decades-long decline in the park.

Ahhhhhhhh, autumn. 😍 There’s a crispness in the air! We’re seeing all the signs of the autumn season: leaves changing color, bull elk bugling, raptors migrating, and temperatures dropping. Happy first day of fall! 🍂

Fall is in the air and so are the raptors! Yellowstone lies in the migration corridor traveled by many birds of prey. Use binoculars to scan the sky around Hayden Valley, Dunraven Pass, and Swan Lake Flats to witness these birds in action. Can you identify these fall migrators?

Today, we visited Manzanar NHS. Walking the grounds is simply sobering. If there is one thing I could impart to every American: visit & learn what really happened. After, I hope you will join me in this resolve: “Never again… not on my watch.” #FindYourPark #VisitCalifornia

On this day in 1973, the Endangered Species Act was signed into law. For 51 years, it has helped preserve plants and wildlife for future generations. We are thankful for the species this law has helped recover and save— from the bald eagle to the island fox.

Planning to hit the gym as part of your New Year’s resolution? Take a tip from this playful polar bear: always stretch first! While gyms are bustling in January, consider exploring America’s public lands when they’re less packed and admiring the beauty of the great outdoors.

One of our park visitors, Dayne Meyer, recently captured this short video clip of a bobcat walking along the entrance road with the dunes and San Luis Valley in the background. Please drive slowly on park roads to prevent collisions with wildlife.

National parks are more popular than ever and need adequate staffing to meet their mission and safely welcome millions of visitors. A hiring freeze would cause major disruptions as parks are starting to hire critical seasonal staff for the busy summer. whitehouse.gov/presidential-a…

“In particularly tough times, we fall back on these questions of who we are, where do we come from. The national parks are our best idea and therefore, are the places where we can find the answers to those questions.” - Ken Burns
