Shoulder to Shoulder, the iconic BBC Drama Series about Emmeline Pankhurst and the Suffragette Movement, is currently available on the BBC I Player to watch for free. We recommend it!

Visitors often ask us if the fight for Women's Rights is over! It's not! We were delighted to host a visit at the museum on Sunday 21st April from Chris Dyson, a WASPI activist campaigning alongside other women born in the 1950's who were affected by changes to the pensions law.

#OTD in 1913, suffragettes Gertrude Shaw and Ethel Spark, barricaded themselves on the Monument to the City of London for several hours. They had heavy iron bars and a large banner inscribed called ‘Death or Victory’. They were released without charge to great publicity.

In retaliation, the house of Arthur Du Gros, (anti-suffrage MP for St. Leonards) was set on fire and destroyed by suffragettes.

We are open today for visitors from 11am, but due to volunteer shortages, we will be closing our doors between 12.30 and 1.30pm to enable our volunteers to have their lunch break. We'll reopen at 1.30pm, last entry 3! Thanks for your understanding.
