Why are pangolins endangered? 〰️ They're the world's most trafficked wild mammal, due to demand for their scales & meat. 〰️ Rapid loss & deterioration of their natural habitat. Want to support the fight against illegal wildlife trade? ⬇️⬇️⬇️ hubs.ly/Q02BszY50

Defense, or dance move? Neither actually, but this pangolin looks ready to take on a challenge. How do pangolins defend themselves? They curl up in an impenetrable ball. Their durable armor of scales is so tough, even a lion's teeth can't break through. 📸 Guy Colborne

How do you identify pangolins after they're released back into the wild? After Elf the pangolin was rehabilitated by Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, they used the harmless method of making small holes, a tiny 'bar code', to help them distinguish him & monitor his return to his natural habitat.

Wanjala is a young pangolin confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade. She weighed only 3kg on arrival but showed positive signs of independence and has now grown to 4kg! 😋 🐜 Our aim is to release Wanjala back into the wild by the end of the year.

Tough exterior, soft belly, big heart. Pangolins have many inspirational (& aspirational) qualities. Both a soft underbelly, and a durable armor of tough scales that protect them from danger. 📸 David Tan/Wildlife Reserves Singapore

When your tongue is longer than your whole body. Weird but true flex for a pangolin, whose tongue can measure >40cm, attaching way back near their pelvis & lower ribs. The perfect length for reaching into insect nests & licking up a few thousand insects per meal. 📸Francois Meyer

Did you know some pangolin species can climb trees like a caterpillar?🐛 This is a Sunda pangolin: the most widely distributed pangolin species in Asia. They prefer forested habitats & spend a large part of their life in trees, even nesting in the hollows of trunks and logs💚
