Setting aside if non-residents should pay a premium, I recon if we switched from stamp duty to land taxes then that would also push away non-residents that are buying houses here and underutilising them (which is probably a smaller issue than many make it sound).

Many excellent answers in the thread here that point out the various mutual benefits between PI and ugrads. But there is another argument, similar to the one why we should publish & present our works at conferences. It is what our bosses - the tax payer expects of us.

AP de Silva has been an absolutely remarkable force of nature in #chemistry I saw him first at ESOC in Gothenburg, Sweden, 1999 as a fresh-faced PhD student at my first international conference. At a crucial time, his inspirational talk and work motivated me to stay in academia.
