Disinformation & fake news have become the instruments of division, diversion & conflict. The use of disruptive AI has made this challenge even more daunting. Occupation forces like India & Israel are weaponizing disinformation & fake news to de-legitimize freedom struggles.

The observance of Earth Day today is a reminder of the daunting challenges posed to the health of our planet by climate change, pollution & biodiversity loss. It is also a clarion call for collective action driven by the realization of our responsibility to our future generations

It was a pleasure to meet & formally welcome Ambassador Fu Cong, FU Cong 傅聪, today. We reaffirmed our commitment to enhancing the excellent cooperation between our two friendly nations at the UN, in keeping with the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

While welcoming Amb Fu Cong, China's new PR, at the GDI event today, I underscored how Pakistan benefited from CPEC especially in the energy sector & hoped that the GDI framework will benefit Pakistan as well as other developing countries in the realization of their SDGs goals.

Israel continues to defy UN Security Council's call to observe a ceasefire. Let there be no doubt that all UNSC resolutions are binding & obligatory in line with Article 25 of the UN Charter.

There should be consequences for Israel

Achieving the goal of zero waste requires a collective endeavour, one, which is driven by a full realization of triple planetary challenge & the responsibility of bequeathing a clean future to our coming generations. Change in attitude, resources & technology can do the trick.

Deeply grieved to learn of the passing of Shahryar Khan, a veteran foreign service officer, a visionary & the noblest of the people I know. He served Pakistan with distinction & leaves behind a rich legacy of public service that will continue to inspire a generation of diplomats.

Major impediment facing the developing countries in transition to clean energy is the lack of adequate financing. A total of USD 80-100 billion concessional finance is needed by early 2030 annually. Money is there but the challenge is to make it available to developing countries.

At a panel discussion on 'Women under foreign occupation' at the UNHQ today, I called for a more robust UN involvement in setting up a monitoring mechanism to register crimes against women & ensure accountability of the occupation forces.
