biorxiv.org/content/10.110… I am thrilled to see our pre-print out and available to the scientific community. Co-led by Abby Bartlett, we identify two mammalian enzymes that drive the catabolism of 4-hydroxy acids through FAO via 4-phosphoacyl-CoA intermediates.

One-hour phosphoproteome analysis with the Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer

Enabled by new instrumentation, we report nearly 40k localized phosphosites in one hour and the deepest mouse phosphoproteome to date with only 12 hours of instrument time

☕️In this issue: Pagliarini Lab & co show that Hem25p (a glycine transporter required for biosynthesis) is also needed for pyrophosphate transport into and synthesis in fungi.

I think it’s really funny that my X account thinks Oleh keeps posting “sensitive content.” What kind of racy mitochondrial content am I missing?!

I second that, Scot! Stay tuned for more to come from Zak Baker. We'd like to keep him this side of the border, but he'd be a gem for any Canadian University.

CoQ10 is large and very hydrophobic, which limits its bioavailability. Our new study, led by Laura Steenberge, shows that CoQ4 is a sufficient substitute for multiple CoQ functions in cells and can be targeted to mitochondria. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I had my shoes shined (badly needed) at the Minneapolis airport today by a 94-year-old legend of a WWII vet named Paul. I asked him if he had any dietary secrets. “Nah, I eat EVERYTHING.” And also does karate and “teaches dancing.” Humbling.

Mitochondria need isoprenoids from the mevalonate pathway to make CoQ, but how do they access them from the cytosol? Check out our surprising finding that Hem25p doubles as an IPP transporter.
