Been sitting here today eating first rate cereal (three bowls) and reading two pieces I commissioned, one on West Belfast and one on the bonfire of university humanities departments Such good writing, such good cereal

Amazing to have shot this deer in a quiet little Norfolk meadow and to then see it on the menu in a London restaurant The water meadow it came from has thick hedges full of wildlife and little pockets of woodland and if that’s to continue the deer there need to be managed

Had a very enjoyable time taking part in the inaugural Leiston Book Festival today - alongside the great Richard Hawking, the inimitable Patrick Galbraith and others. Many thanks to Robert Ashton, Halesworth Bookshop and the crowd who came.

Started work recently on a large wetland restoration project. Several Snipe have already moved in. Great news as this bird is declining across the UK. One was killed by a free ranging pet cat. A pet could have a huge impact on this site and it's biodiversity.

I echo Tom Parfitt sentiments - it was lovely to hear engaging insights from people who are passionate about ideas and experiences. Thank you Robert Ashton for organising the event, Halesworth Bookshop from Halesworth Bookshop and all the volunteers who helped make it a great day.

Without being too 'Normal Island' about it, this piece makes me so embarrassed to be English. But it also has made me laugh a lot over the last few months too.
