Stoked to have my work on myths and stereotypes about IPV cited by the British Columbia Court of Appeal. The myth that false allegations of IPV are made to gain an upper hand in family law disputes is all too pervasive. bccourts.ca/jdb-txt/ca/24/…

The Court allowed an appeal from a final parenting order that provided the father with equal and unsupervised parenting time, finding the trial judge failed to conduct a proper analysis of the mother's allegations of family violence. bccourts.ca/jdb-txt/ca/24/…

“There is a difference between overtly lying and not being able to prove abuse.”

I think this gets conflated. Not proving something is different than lying, but i see the leap made too often.

Unfortunately it has been confirmed to me through various confidential sources that criminals are brazen right now as the risk/reward is in their favour. They either succeed for big reward or have little risk of serious repercussions. Thats their perception…

Why are judges with no background in family law continuing to be assigned to complicated cases involving children? Children are not experiments or used for trial and error. If you are charged with a crime you will get a judge with criminal background.

There seems to be a belief that if a sexual abuse allegation is made against a parent towards a child, it is automatically deemed to be false and “alienation”. Further errors occur when no charges are laid and it’s taken as proof it’s a lie. Many are scared to raise it now.

This, or similar, should strongly be considered. Also need to ensure it doesn’t get repackaged as something else or re-naming it, which we have seen.

This is an important statement by Michael Parsa, but I note continuing serious concerns with child protection agencies failing to identify and respond to this. There does not appear to be any meaningful changes within those organizations, which need significant overhaul.

I see recommendations from custody assessors that boggle my mind and show a continuing concern about their training:

History of abuse? ✅
Past gang affiliation? ✅
Drug problems? ✅
Found to be a pathological liar ✅
No history of cooperation ✅

Recommendation? Joint custody
