I hate ‘rule out pyelonephritis’ on any radiology request

Which ever way you look at it, it’s profoundly ignorant +/- completely disrespectful and wrong

On the ‘boils my piss’ scale (where 1 is lightly bubbling and 10 is superheated urinary steam), it ranks the highest at 14/10

Just had an email from our beloved The Royal College of Radiologists informing me that this years subs have increased by 10% to £609

Not sure this is going to go down terribly well and that it might have a paradoxical action of decreasing income as radiologists question the worth of this

Devastating news. This will have major repercussions in secondary care. Staff will not be able to access the same level support locally and promptly.

There will be costly implications for sick leave, staff retention and possibly worse.

Urgent rethink needed NHS England

An appeal to my fellow radiologists:

Stop writing odd, highly technical or obscure normal findings in reports

Can you imagine a physician writing a letter to a GP saying:

“The patient has cerulean blue irises, 5mm pupils and type 5 eyebrows”

It adds nothing and just confuses

In other news, I have sold all my old camera gear and bought a modern full frame mirrorless camera (z8).

A colleague in a nearby hospital came to work a couple of weeks ago to find out that the hospital chaplain had visited the admin office on an urgent basis

Apparently they were asked to ‘bless’ a standard issue MDF desk that was felt to be cursed
