1/19 (6:13A) Ice & snow? Take it slow! Snow continues to fall in the District. If you must drive, go slow & leave extra room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Otherwise, stay off the roads as possible. It helps give District Snow Team crews room to work.

1/19: (4:43A) NWS Baltimore-Washington has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for DC from 4a-7p. Snow expected w/ accumulations of 2-4in.

Plan ahead for potential slippery road conditions to impact AM or PM commute:
- Leave early
- Leave extra space between cars
- Don’t crowd the snow plows

The Metropolitan Police Department collected toy donations for the National Children’s Hospital throughout the month. Today, Chief Pamela A. Smith led the special delivery to CNH.

MPD is currently on the scene of a large black bear in a tree in the 1300 block of Franklin Street, NE. There are road closures in the area. Animal Care and Control is responding.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ofc. Nelson Casillas, an 8-year member with MPD, who was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident earlier today in Virginia. Our heartfelt sympathies are with his family & friends during this difficult time.
