The global adoption of diet low in meat would aid health, land & food systems as well as reducing emissions, shows new PIK study with Florian Humpenöder.
The study illustrates how dietary shifts would contribute towards the feasibility of 1.5°C 👉theguardian.com/environment/20…

See our new paper in Nature Reviews Earth & Environment 🌈 on 2023s record breaking heat extremes led by Prof. Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick .

Heatwaves increasingly occur outside of the warm season, happen simultaneous in multiple regions and affect the same region several times in a year.

Important new PIK study. A shift in our diets could make a considerable difference if we do not want to crash through the 1.5°C limit in the next 10 - 15 years. This calls for globally concerted efforts to support the transition towards sustainable healthy diets.

The cost of food could increase by as much as 1.5% to 1.8% annually by 2035. Those numbers are likely to increase as climate change worsens. Inflation pressure from is likely to be higher in the global south, according to a study by PIK's Maximilian Kotz & European Central Bank. 👇

The news is out🗞️

In 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣, there was a 15.5% decrease in emissions compared to 2022 levels.

The record reduction is largely due to the increase of 🇪🇺 renewable energy production at the expense of both coal and gas.
