Did you know? California Thrashers are masters of mimicry; they can replicate the sounds of other birds, animals, and even some mechanical noises! Keep your eyes peeled for a chance to see them at the future Puente Hills Landfill Park! #PHLP #LACountyParks #WeAllNeedParks

Did you know? The Great Horned Owl's “horns” are actually tufts of feathers that match the coloring on other parts of their body! They are well-adapted to urban landscapes so you might catch a glimpse of one at the future park or even in your own backyard. #LACountyParks #PHLP

In addition to restoring native plant life and improving wildlife habitats, the Puente Hills Regional Park will provide a safe space for inclusive recreation, community gathering, and education. When the park opens, what activities will be the most exciting to you? #LACountyParks

Did you know? Coastal Cactus Wren populations are declining due to the loss of their cactus scrub habitat. The park's design team incorporated cactus scrub planting into the landscaping so that these birds could have adequate nesting habitat in our park! #PHLP #LACountyParks

We love birds here at Puente Hills Landfill Park! Birds are great indicators of overall ecosystem health – their behavior and population patterns can help us determine habitat quality, pollution levels, and biodiversity in a given area. #PHLP #LACountyParks #WeAllNeedParks

Did you know? The Mule Deer is a large terrestrial mammal native to western North America. The Puente Hills Regional Park will be part of a wildlife corridor in the San Gabriel Valley, so animals like the mule deer can travel safely from place to place. #PHLP #LACountyParks

A major priority of the Puente Hills Landfill Park plan is increasing biodiversity in the region. Plant and animal biodiversity is integral to maintaining healthy ecosystems and preventing fallout from weather-related events like flooding and drought. #PHLP #LACountyParks

Did you know? The Western Skink (and its local subspecies the Coronado Skink) have blue tails until adulthood! When threatened, western skinks can “lose” their tail, which falls off and moves by itself to distract predators while the skink escapes. #PHLP #LACountyParks

A major goal in designing the Puente Hills Landfill Park is to create an accessible, multi-modal transportation network within the park. We will also prioritize inclusive wayfinding methods so that everyone can safely and comfortably explore the park. #PHLP #LACountyParks
