You may see these stickers appear on your bags or green cart. In stickering your waste, we hope to help you understand what was improperly sorted to ensure in the future it is properly sorted and collected.

Congratulations Port Hawkesbury residents! After this week's collection our diversion rate was greater than 50%, this means that the weight of organics composted exceeded the weight of garbage sent to the landfill.

Recycling is an easy way to divert waste from landfills. In 2020, Nova Scotia was in the top 3 for return rates in Canada! In Port Hawkesbury, recyclables are collected curbside on a bi-weekly basis and refundables can be returned to a local Enviro-Depot.

Waste Wise Wednesday About 26% of waste from disposable foodservice items comes from napkins. In our efforts to reduce waste, one small step you can take is to say no to side items. Reduce your takeout waste by asking them not to include napkins, sauce packages & plastic cutlery

Confused on liner bags for your green bins? Let us clarify: Use only paper bags or the certified compostable bags (with the logo) in the green bin; these do compost. What not to use: regular plastic bags or bio-degradable bags; these do not compost.

Waste Wise Wednesday With Valentine's Day coming up, we wanted to remind you not to release balloons into the air. When balloons are released they can travel thousands of kms before they eventually fall & land in the environment as pollution & pose a huge threat to wildlife.
