Severe Weather Awareness Week: During flash flooding, you never know how deep the water is over the road. 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, 12 inches can float most cars, and 24 inches can carry cars, SUVs, and pick-ups down stream. #TurnAroundDontDrown #SeverePrepPA
At 9 p.m., Pittsburgh EMS units, including the Swiftwater Team from 5FR6, rescued a woman trapped in a car sinking in rising waters on Route 51.
Swiftwater Rescue Paramedics accessed the patient and loaded her into the boat, taking her to safety at a nearby business.
UPDATE: As of today, all parks and trails previously closed due to high flood waters are now re-opened. Thank you for your patience and please report any lingering flood concerns to Pittsburgh 311 Response Center .
