🗣🗣HS 🏀Players Thread 🧵 What areas of your game make you more recruitable without the ball in your hands? College coaches have identified these 3️⃣ non-ball skills that incoming freshmen are traditionally behind on when they get to campus ⬇️

1️⃣ Footspeed and Footwork Everything you do at the college level requires elite footwork. Shooter? Your footwork better be exceptional if you want to be open for catch and shoot situations. Big man? Pick and rolls/pops and defensive rotations just got 10x more intricate

Use a quickfoot ladder, jump ropes, or tires to improve the precision and speed of your footwork. If you don’t have access to those, find a line/crack on the ground and do 1 foot/2 foot balance work. 10-15 minutes a day will sharpen your feet and prepare you for the next level.

2️⃣ Setting effective screens Whether you’re a guard, wing or forward, setting an effective & legal screen is a massively undervalued skill in today’s game. The pick and roll is the most common offensive action in basketball, but it seems like nobody practices setting picks.

Focus on creating an angle for the ball handler, where the defender has to make a decision ~ Do they have to fight over the top? Or do they go under and risk giving up an open shot? Don’t give the on-ball defender a play off by setting a weak screen at a bad angle.

3️⃣ Blocking Out Shooting, speed, size and skill can get you on the floor at the college level. But failing to block out and being a negative impact on the glass will get you right back to the bench just as quick.

Approach rebounding with a mental checklist just like you would shooting. Initiate & control contact, find the flight of the ball and position yourself for the best board opportunity. NEVER accept that you’re blocked out, ALWAYS keep fighting for position.

By simply working on these 3️⃣ non-ball skills, you can make yourself that much more recruitable to coaches. These are things you work on EVERY DAY at the next level, get a head start by fine tuning these skills now‼️
