Fenceline webinar highlights: - Mix & Rotate: move away from glyph! Treat Paraquat with care (resistance & operator safety) + use alternate knockdowns. - Use a residual to reduce numbers + spray small weeds in early winter. - Sow to the fence + bale, still an excellent strategy.

Another IMI resistant brome from SA confirmed. The IMI technology has been & continues to be amazing for brome, barleygrass & wild oat control. There’s still virtually no resistance in these grasses. Left: susceptible brome, Right resistant.

Paraquat is an essential tool to control glyphosate resistant ryegrass. There are no other reliable options to control prior to sowing crops. The addition of Group 14 (G) herbicides is rarely useful to control glyphosate resistant plants.WeedSmart Syngenta ANZ

News on new Bayer herbicide Icafolin. Controls very many weed species pre AND post em. Excellent paper shows MOA is tubulin inhibitor, similar but not exactly as for old pre em trifluralin etc type herbicides. No mention of crop selectivity (yet). Looks promising.

Testing with farmer brews on ryegrass this summer to better understand herbicide performance on stressed ryegrass. Sprayed on hot summer day. Example of stress on Biffo 3.75L + Terrad'or 40g @ 1 week after spraying. More results soon. GRDC South WeedSmart

Pre-em testing of ryegrass starting today due to the expected cooling from this coming weekend. 100’s of samples received prior to Jan 1 will be sprayed this week.

Creeping glyphosate resistance. This individual has clearly survived 4L/ha of a quality Glyphosate 540 product. Cross-pollination of weak resistance survivors over time creates strong resistance. WeedSmart

I assessed this ryegrass yesterday and thought I would share. It has survived very high rates of DIMs. Sprayed under ideal conditions. I wouldn't expect any effect in the field with DIM chemistry. WeedSmart

DIM vs Glyphosate speed of action. We have assessed lots of pots in the past few months. Under warmer conditions DIMs faster acting than Glyphosate. Under cooler conditions (autumn in Adelaide) Glyphosate activity much faster than DIMs. This shows how much DIM...... (1 of 2)

2/2 ... herbicides are affected by cooler weather, and its not even cold yet!!! Our observations suggest the cooler it gets, the slower DIMs work which may lead to reduced activity too? It dosent have to be frosty only, cool-cold conditions reduce activity too.

Often increasing the rate of clethodim on ryegrass with weak DIM-resistance is effective. In this case it is not. Clethodim 500ml/ha + Factor 180g/ha was however effective. Shows the benefit of resistance testing. WeedSmart
