Davao’s biggest gov’t contractor Glenn Escandor is reportedly set to take over the Phoenix franchise as Dennis Uy continues to suffer from financial stress. With numerous gov’t contracts plus his other business endeavors, Escandor clearly has the capacity to bankroll a PBA team.

Though a direct franchise takeover without going through a sale is strictly prohibited under PBA rules, it probably won't be an issue given Escandor's close ties with Smc. Escandor’s construction firm is allegedly a sub-con of Smc in some of its construction projects.

The impending entry of Escandor, who is also in the hotel, restaurant, packaging, security industries, should bode well for Phoenix's PBA stint with the expected upgrade in financial resources. Possessing a promising core with solid upside, there's really nowhere to go but up.

The last time Tnt won the Philippine Cup championship was back in 2021, defeating Magnolia 4–1 in the finals with then superstar guard Mikey Williams being crowned the Finals MVP. Tnt is now down 2-1 to Smb while Converge is still trying to sign Williams to a free agent deal.
