Do you know why our wetlands are so important? It is estimated that 40% of the world's biodiversity is found in wetland habitats. Despite this, globally we are losing wetlands 3x faster than forests. The Oxford Flood Alleviation Scheme aims to help combat some of this loss.

This June we encourage you to get out and about in nature. Did you know that as part of the @OxfordScheme we will be increasing the local biodiversity by at least 10%?

We are aiming to use 100% recycled sheet piles throughout the scheme area – and will seek to replace concrete headwalls with alternatives, reducing the use of concrete throughout the scheme. #PlasticFreeJuly

We are looking at how we might be able to collaborate with research institutions to use the scheme as a study area once complete. We want the scheme to benefit the community beyond flood protection

When complete, the scheme will improve active travel routes such as pathways and cycleways, connecting local communities with nature 🚴‍♂️🚴🚴‍♀️

A new path along one side of the scheme will provide a new north to south walking and cycle route between Osney Mead and Devils Backbone footpath. #CycleToWorkDay
