A wonderful start to today’s study day, ‘Multiple Identities: Telling Life Stories Through Objects’ as Kate Kennedy challenges is us to ‘find the whispers’ of past lives behind objects.

Eleri Lynn, Chief Curator of Historic Royal Palaces , discusses the reasons for the rarity of royal Tudor clothing and wardrobe items and the significance of Historic Royal Palaces’ recent acquisition, a 16th century silk hat, known as the ‘Bristowe’ hat.

Mobilising the example of Jean Rhys' house dress, Sophie Oliver (University of Liverpool) queries how material and affective analyses of the clothes of female modernist writers might support imaginative, scholarly connections between the researcher and such writers' lives and work.

Through this new initiative, we aim to encourage and empower talented writers who are underrepresented both in our community and on our bookshelves, supporting them to establish themselves as successful authors. Please share far and wide. Kate Kennedy Elleke Boehmer TORCH Oxford
