That an' the fact it's just hail stoned outside. Gave me front windows a right rattlin' it did. But that's nowt to do with the picture below, that's just me wofflin'. 🙄

It felt wrong when it was happening, even to the kid I was then. Fine old housing stock reduced to rubble, leaving a waste ground of puddles and magenta purple weeds. They offered us flats instead, made of high alumina cement. Jack's cow was exchanged for a handful of beans. 😞

Kindling to some, worthless to others, dusty old relics of a world that once was to many more...

And yet!

I spend hours transported by them, my spirits lifted by them, and cherished is the knowledge gained from them. Books are old school cool! 🙂

Grey, damp, and shadowless. The browns are browny-grey, the reds are reddish-grey, the blues are bluey-grey. The saddest thing about life in the North West UK is we are so often deprived of colour!

A few decades later the people are gone, and the building is gone. Always thankful for photographers like Don for recording my home town as it once was. 👍

I'm reminded of my childhood days. Whenever a kid at school said 'My Dad's got a car' we were all instantly in awe. 😯

If I could take my pick I'd have the Fordson van, the Austin A 50, and the grey Austin Somerset a bit further back, the one with the sunroof. There are more expensive cars in the picture, but those mentioned are the ones I'd be happy with. 😊

Spent many an hour with my nose pressed up agin' those windows, watching a cavalacade of motoring history pass by. From an Upright Ford Popular in black to the big Ford Granada's of the late 1970's, I saw them all, pristine in that window.

Everyone had nicknames in those days which probably wouldn't be allowed today. There was Kit-Kat (always on a break) 😁 and E.T (kept askin' to go home) and so on.

They're all gone now bless 'em. Fine lads really. 👍

Done it all my life, so any excuse to lie in bed I'll take.
I often wondered what it would be like to get up at 7:30 am and not start work till 9:00. I'd turned 60 before it happened. 🙄
