My Good Friday prayer is that we look at the cross and see there a better way of being human, where we acknowledge our need of God and our need of one another, and where the highest ideals are those of sacrifice and service.

Sometimes the moments of defeat and pain are the moments when God is most profoundly with us. Perhaps not in the way we expected, and perhaps not in the way we wanted, but in the quietness, the isolation, and the desolation He whispers to every heart: 'you are not alone.'
