Free #snappingturtle rides! Kidding aside, Kiley recently spotted Painted Turtles basking on the back of a Common Snapping Turtle. Basking #turtles are generally tolerant of each other and aren’t shy about piling up, but usually such pileups occur on a rock or log, not a snapper.

Blake, our Longleaf Stewardship Center Manager, encountered this juvenile #BoxTurtle and Common #SnappingTurtle crossing the road within a mile of each other. After photos, he moved them off the road in the direction they were headed, so they could continue on their adventures.

While surveying a stream for Wood Turtles last month, Kiley chanced on this #SpottedTurtle in the stream. He had seen this same #turtle last year in a shallow wetland nearby, but dry conditions this spring may have pushed this turtle to seek refuge in the stream. #Clemmysguttata

Last month, a lot of people had a total solar eclipse on their minds. This Wood Turtle, however, has a total eclipse forever in its eyes.
