This is what the Star Chamber looked like when Ordsall Hall reopened as a museum in the 1970's. It stayed like this until the refurbishment in 2009!

We celebrated Earth Day in advance this weekend Ordsall Hall by using sleepy ingredients and flavourings from our garden to re-create breads, lettuce pies, salad with edible flowers, and posset - all from early modern recipes.

Did you know...

as part of the late Victorian renovations of the Hall, 4 of the stars in the ceiling of the Star Chamber could be moved? This allowed those below to hear conversations in the rooms above! These whisper holes were blocked up in the 1960s.

Every Sunday we offer a tour led by a facilitator at 12:30pm at a cost of £4.50. A second tour is led by a volunteer at 2pm which is free, but donations are welcome.

There is no need to book, just come by!

Have you ever wondered why there are three doors in the Great Hall?

Originally, the central one would have led, via a passageway, to the kitchen. The left hand door opened directly into the buttery (or drinks store), while the right hand one opened into the food store.

Close to Manchester City Centre and Salford Quays, Ordsall Hall is the ideal location for your next work event.

Do you recognise the window in this photo?

Taken pre 1871, this image shows our oriel window which is located in the Great Hall. The Markendale family leased Ordsall Hall from 1814 to 1871, so this is likely their seating room.
