Les Paul purchased his first guitar in 1927 at 11-years-old for $3.95. It was a Troubadour flat that Paul played 5 strings on–removing the lower E string he couldn’t reach. This would be the start of Les’ moniker ‘Red Hot Red,’ & his beginnings of experimenting with instruments.
