An email from a young journalist who watched our session at journalism festival (sharing with her permission).

This person clearly cares a lot about journalism - she watches web streams of media talks. It's pretty sad that this is how our industry makes her feel.

It's not normal to 'dislike' children - it's not even dislike because the way in which you lot speak about children is alarming and straight hate

A lot of you actually hate children and need to address why

All this talk of vocabulary has me wanting to buy a new dictionary and obsessively read it - like I did a child

I literally studied the Oxford English dictionary and thesaurus as a child because I was enamoured by words - still am.

๐Ÿ˜‚ Our native languages are highly descriptive and metaphorical, interpreting certain things in English often waters down the weight of their meaning.

That's why we instinctively choose heavy English words cos' we hope that they'll communicate the intensity of what we're saying.

Was the idea novel? Or did 'delve' immediately invalidate it? Look beyond your biases... Ppl who learn English as a 2nd language tend to speak it more formally and not colloquially like in UK or US. I was an avid reader as a child and was made fun of in UK for using big words.
