Designed by Charles Jencks, it was his final land art project and largest work in the UK.

Launched in 1980, Margaret Calvert’s graphic design for the Tyne and Wear Metro is still in use across the network today, so it’s great to see her pay a visit!

Whether via road, rail, air or sea, her work over six decades has helped shape the visual identity of modern Britain.

NEWS // The remarkable Ron’s Place in Birkenhead has been Grade II listed following support from C20.

Created by Ron Gittins between 1986-2019, it features creatures from Greek mythology and murals of Ancient Rome, and is the first example of Outsider Art to be nationally listed

A flying visit to the wonderful, meditative Golconde in Puducherry (1937-45), a dormitory for the nearby ashram.
Designed by Antonin Raymond & George Nakashima, it’s India’s first modernist, reinforced concrete building - predating better known examples in Chandigarh & Ahmedabad.

Visit to Brihadishvara Temple in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, built by Emperor Rajaraja between 1003 and 1010 CE (!)

While the Anglo-Saxons were building stumpy bell towers, the Chola people were putting up this 220ft carved granite colossus, a thousand-year-old skyscraper to the gods.

1. Yes, there are thought to be less than 50 towers left across the UK, but no we're not trying to save them all. C20 is campaigning to preserve just a single set of towers.

NEWS // 🛹‘Livi’ Skatepark in Livingston, West Lothian (1981), has just been listed at Category B, following support from C20.
The designation makes it the first listed skatepark in Scotland and only the second in the UK, after 'The Rom’ in East London.

☮️Created by Gerald Holtom in 1958, the design incorporated the flag semaphore for the letters N and D to stand for Nuclear Disarmament.

However, it quickly gained a wider meaning as a symbol of peace and hope!

NEWS // C20 have backed a campaign to protect a William Mitchell mural and community clubhouse on the Brooklands Park Estate in Blackheath.
Designed in 1958, the large inlaid resin mural is one of Mitchell's best-preserved early works still in situ.
